The Nigerian champions will have their hands full when they kick off their campaign in the newly formed African Football League, AFL.
Enyimba will go head-to-head with Moroccan giants, Wydad Casablanca, in a clash of the Titans slated for Uyo on Sunday.
The game which will be played at the elegant Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, will get underway at 7 pm Nigerian time as reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria.
Enyimba and seven other teams who will take part in the inaugural tournament are said to be guaranteed $1 million for playing in the quarterfinals.
The announcement of this substantial financial incentive has undoubtedly added an extra layer of significance to the upcoming clash.
No Pressure for Enyimba
With such a significant sum on the line, and more should the Elephants make it beyond the first knockout stage, there is a natural expectation of heightened pressure on the teams to perform.
However, Nigeria’s Enyimba is not one of such clubs according to a statement from their coach.
Speaking ahead of the game against Wydad, the Super Eagles legend emphasised that the Elephants are not under any pressure to perform but are simply focused on making the country proud.
“There is no pressure on us (Enyimba),” Finidi stated in his pre-match press conference per a post from Enyimba.
“We would do our best to make Nigeria and West Africa proud,” he added.
The People’s Elephant have a rich history and legacy to uphold and are determined to approach the match with the same dedication and commitment that has defined their footballing ethos.
