Could Conor Gallagher leave Chelsea?
Gallagher was a mainstay under Mauricio Pochettino last season, playing 37 of the club’s 38 Premier League matches but that did not stop rumours of a departure from Stamford Bridge.
Those reports were rife 12 months ago and continued in January, with the Blues hierarchy keen to let go of the academy product, who had about 18 months left on his contract at the time.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are still intent on the sale of a key member of the squad that ended sixth last season, made it to the FA Cup semi-finals and came close to winning the EFL Cup.
The report states that both clubs have held preliminary talks about the 24-year-old, and a deal could be struck imminently if there is no impasse in the discussions.
What comes next for Gallagher?
While the Chelsea midfielder’s future is in the air, the 24-year-old is focused on a strong European Championship with England.
Gallagher was included in Gareth Southgate’s 33-man provisional England squad and hopes to make the final 26-player group which should be announced before the June 7 deadline.
