FKFPL Erick Kapaito unfazed by barren start at Tusker

Kapaito, a two-time FKFPL Golden Boot winner, has yet to score in his first start at Tusker.

Tusker FC forward Erick Kapaito insists he is putting the team first before his own interests after failing to score in his first start for the Ruaraka-based outfit.

Kapaito, a two-time FKFPL Most Valuable Player (MVP) winner, signed for Tusker after contractual issues forced him to leave Zanaco shortly after joining from Ethiopian side Arba Minch earlier this year.

The diminutive striker started his first home game for Tusker in their 1-0 win over Muhoroni Youth last Saturday, and although he failed to find the back of the net, contributed to the team effectively with his hold-up play, which helped create a couple of chances for his teammates.

Speaking to Pulse Sports, Kapaito insisted that the team getting all three points was more important than aiming for individual accolades and getting his goalscoring statistics off the mark.

“It has been good, if you look at the performance (against Muhoroni Youth) has been great,” Kapaito said. “The team got all three points and I believe it has been good,” he added.

“Everything is going well and we believe being patient with everything as well as putting the team first will set a platform for personal performances to be elevated later.”

The former FC Talanta forward insists he has adapted well to new surroundings considering he had played with most of his Tusker teammates at Kariobangi Sharks.

“Everyone is gelling well. If you look, most of the players I am playing with here at Tusker I played with in my previous clubs, we have played together and we know each other well.

“We have adapted well together and even my fellow new signings have also adapted well to the team and I believe we will do well come the end of the season.”

Kapaito insists his teammates will take it a game at a time if they are to stand a chance of making amends for their near-miss last season when they lost out on the title by one point.

“The first thing is to take it game by game, you never know (how things could happen) you can't plan for the end of the season now, but the aim is to do as well as we can because you never know God’s plan.

“The aim is to work hard and then we will know what will happen at the end of the season.”

The 12-time league champions will face FC Talanta in their fifth FKFPL match of the season.
