Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag has been criticised for not attending the funeral of club legend Sir Bobby Charlton.

The football world paid their last respects to Manchester United and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton today, but the current Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag was not in attendance and this has aggrieved certain persons.

The 1966 World Cup winner passed away three weeks ago, and today he was laid to rest at Manchester Cathedral. His funeral was attended by many English football personalities, especially those of Manchester United persuasion, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Michael Carrick, Roy Keane, Harry Maguire, Ryan Giggs, etc. And others like Prince William and Gareth Southgate, but Ten Hag was conspicuously absent.

Ten Hag’s absence angers English presenter

According to the Daily Star, “unbreakable and longstanding personal commitment in the Netherlands" was given as the reason for Erik ten Hag’s absence from the event.

Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys thinks the excuse is untenable and that the Dutch manager should have found a way to be there, given the importance of the occasion.

"I don’t care what it is that Ten Hag claims was ‘an unbreakable commitment’ in Holland - there is no way that he should’ve missed Sir Bobby Charlton’s funeral,” he said on his X account.

"It’s a disgrace. There would be no United without the likes of Sir Bob. RIP. And thank you for what you gave to all of us."

Meanwhile, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has admitted Marcus Rashford is not happy about his current struggles.

Rashford committed his long-term future to Manchester United over the summer after finishing the season with 30 goals in all competitions, a personal best.

This season has been a different story entirely, Holland—there as the England international has only managed 1 goal in 15 appearances and looks desperately short of confidence.
