Former Super Eagles former Yakubu Aiyegbeni has added his voice to the comparison between Austin Jay Jay Okocha and Alex Iwobi.
Former Nigeria striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has weighed in on the ongoing comparisons between Fulham's Alex Iwobi and legendary midfielder Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Aiyegbeni added his voice to the Iwobi debate in the aftermath of his cyberbullying by fans following Nigeria’s heartbreak in the AFCON 2023.

From Victor to the goalkeeper — Iwobi explains why Super Eagles are not afraid of any team at AFCON
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwob has hailed the team's performance against Ivory Coast and sounded out a warning to the rest of Africa.
Aiyegbeni speaks on Iwobi
Yakubu insists that Iwobi should not be held to the same standards as Okocha, who is regarded as one of Nigeria's greatest ever players.
"Alex Iwobi would never be like Jay Jay Okocha. They (fans) need to understand and stop comparing Alex Iwobi to Jay Jay," Yakubu said in a video from the TheYakPodcast shared on X.
"This guy is different, Iwobi can run from London to Nigeria, Jay Jay cannot run but he has the skills and he’s very intelligent. He’s one of the best midfielders Nigeria has ever produced."
Okocha was famed for his outrageous skills and flair during a stellar career that saw him star for Nigeria’s Super Eagles and clubs like PSG and Bolton.
But Yakubu says there will never be another player from Nigeria quite like his former skipper Okocha.
"Jay Jay will say to me ‘Yak, forget about it, i will turn the ball like this, i will turn the ball like that, i dey see you, run,” he said further. “There is no one like Jay Jay. Nigeria needs to let go."
Aiyegbeni also suggested that the constant comparisons were an unnecessary distraction amid more pressing issues in Nigeria.
"Our problem in Nigeria is not football. They should focus on reality in Nigeria than focus on Iwobi," he added.
Iwobi, 26, has become a key player for Fulham and Nigeria and was a constant feature for the Super Eagles in the impressive run to the final of the recently concluded 34th AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
