Manchester United stars celebrate Benni McCarthy's appointment as Harambee Stars coach
Manchester United players congratulated Benni McCarthy on his appointment as Harambee Stars head coach.
The English youngster was among the scorers as captain Martin Odegaard scored twice, while there were also goals for Jurrien Timber, Mikel Merino, Leandro Trossard, and Riccardo Calafiori. His strike saw in the netherlands saw him move past former Chelsea and Real Madrid star Eden Hazard for number of goals scored from open play in the Champions League knockout stages.
It was also the first time that two English teenagers have combined for a goal in Champions League history. Nwaneri scored his second Champions League goal in a dream start to his senior Arsenal career. Set up by the quick feet and cut-back delivery of 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly, Nwaneri's instinctive near-post run saw him lash in Arsenal's second of the game.

Gor Mahia coach Sinisa Mihic welcomes Benson Omala's return amid profligacy issue
Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic has welcomed the return of striker Benson Omala as his main strikers continue to fire blanks.
He has now scored in his last two European matches, having also found the net with a fine curling effort in a 2-1 win over Girona in January. He will not turn 18 until later this month, but excitement is only growing about how far he could go in the game.
Nwaneri has been given the unenviable task of filling in for Bukayo Saka while the winger recovers from a serious hamstring injury, but he has already proved himself on the biggest stage.
In the Premier League, the fleet-footed attacking midfielder has chipped in with three goals and one assist in 17 appearances, with only one yellowcard to his name. Coupled with a level of ability that places him among Arsenal's best academy products of recent decades, it is little wonder he is seen as a star of the not-too-distant future.

Dan Shikanda reveals AFC Leopards’ bold move for Kasarani stadium land
AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has confirmed that the club officially submitted all the paperwork on Tuesday, 5th March 2025, to acquire the land in Kasarani supposed to be used for the building of its stadium.
A player handed his Premier League debut by Mikel Arteta at 15 years and 181 days old against Brentford in September 2022 has emerged as game-changing option in the manager's squad.
How injury became opportunity
)
When Nwaneri was 14, he suffered a stress fracture of his back. The injury, not uncommon for academy players whose bodies are adapting to the demands of strength and conditioning work, would rule him out of competitive action for three months, a frustrating setback in what was already shaping up to be a thrillingly promising career.
Three years on, though, as Nwaneri continues to make history at senior level, that period of rehabilitation is remembered in Arsenal's academy as a crucial phase in his development. That is partly because it gave the previously injury-free youngster a different challenge – and challenging a player of his ability was not easy, which is why he was already featuring for Arsenal's U18s – but mainly because, after an initial period on the sidelines, it allowed him a match-free schedule to work with his coaches individually.

FIFA rankings: Harambee Starlets biggest climbers in the world thanks to win over Tunisia
Harambee Starlets have moved up seven places in the latest FIFA rankings thanks to their impressive results against Tunisia in the WAFCON qualifiers.
They used the opportunity to focus on specific technical elements of his game. Nwaneri's skill level was already extraordinarily high but the aim was to refine certain elements. There was a focus on his body shape when receiving passes; on ensuring unpredictability in his dribbling.
Nwaneri is tipped to have a bright future with the England national team Three Lions. He has shown maturity and composure rarely found in players his age. With him, in the absence of Saka, Arsenal have a real dangerman cutting in from the left and he will hope to be injury-free to help the Gunners attain their season objectives.
