England boss Gareth Southgate has admitted that trimming his squad down to 26 players for EURO 2024 will be extremely difficult.
James Maddison to miss Euro 2024
The former teammate of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho had a strong start to year one at Tottenham Hotspur, adding spice and much-needed creativity to Ange Postecoglou’s new-look Spurs.
However, an ankle injury suffered in Tottenham's eventual 4-1 defeat by Chelsea saw the former Leicester man miss two months of action through injury.
Maddison returned to much relief but did not have the same fluency as consistently post-injury. Regardless, the 27-year-old scored once and set up four goals in 17 appearances.
Despite the seeming dip in the new year, Maddison was named in Southgate’s provisional 33-player group, and featured in Monday’s 3-0 triumph against Bosnia.
However, Wednesday night’s news of his omission was revealed by The Athletic, with the report stating that the Spurs player will be one of six players cut by the Three Lions coach.
Maddison has played seven times for England since making his debut against Montenegro in November 2019.
