Ashworth hails Ten Hag
Ten Hag, who led United to two trophies in his first two seasons in charge, has penned a new deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2026, the Red Devils confirmed.
And Ashworth, who just joined United, has revealed his delight at tying down the former Ajax boss, despite acknowledging that there are 'grey areas' that need to be addressed.
With two trophies in the past two seasons, Erik has reinforced his record as one of the most consistently successful coaches in European football,' Ashworth tolf the club’s website.
While the club's review of last season highlighted areas for improvement, it also reached a clear conclusion that Erik was the best partner for us to work with in driving up standards and outcomes.'
Ten Hag himself admitted there is 'lots of hard work ahead' for United to challenge for the biggest trophies in England and Europe, but he expressed his delight at extending his stay at the club.
I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together,' the Dutchman said.
However, we must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means challenging for English and European titles.'
Ashworth's glowing endorsement of Ten Hag will be a major boost for the manager, who will be keen to build on the club's FA Cup victory last season and challenge for the Premier League title in the upcoming campaign.
The former Brighton and England technical director will be hoping his close working relationship with Ten Hag can help United return to the pinnacle of English and European football in the coming years.
