Osimhen failed to reach the heights of last season but Accardi believes he could go back to world class next season.
Former Palermo player Guiseppe Accardi has backed Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen to reclaim his world class status if he stays at Napoli next season.
Osimhen's numbers for Napoli
Osimhen scored 21 goals and recorded 11 assists in 35 games for Napoli this season but the Neapolitans failed to defend their league title, finishing in a disappointing ninth position.
Although Osimhen’s numbers this season are decent, they starkly contrasted his numbers last campaign, which saw him lead Napoli to their first league title since 1990.
The Super Eagles star scored 26 league goals last season and five in the Champions League to finish with 31 in all competitions.
However, while Osimhen’s numbers did not reach the heights of last season, Accardi believes Osimhen can regain his status as a world class striker again if he stays at Napoli and works with Antonio Conte.
Ex-Chelsea man Antonio Conte can help Osimhen reach next level
Conte, the ex-Chelsea manager, is set to take over as Napoli’s coach ahead of next season, but he might not get to work with Osimhen as the Nigerian has been linked with a move away from Naples.
Nonetheless, Accardi believes Conte could help Osimhen reach the heights of last season if he stays at Napoli next season.
“I would keep Osimhen and Kvara because finding strong attackers is not easy and with a new coach like Conte, they could go back to being two players of a stratospheric level, Accardi told Calciomania broadcast, as per, Tutto Napoli.”
Osimhen still has a year left on his contract in Naples but he is likely to leave the club this summer, with Chelsea leading the chase.
