Knost, who played for Germany at U-18 level, has spoken for the first time since accepting a call-up to the Kenya National Football Team Harambee Stars.
German-born Kenyan defender Tobias Knost has revealed his targets after receiving his first call-up to the Harambee Stars squad, which is stepping up preparations for their World Cup qualifying matches against Burundi and Ivory Coast.
Knost, who played for Germany at U-18 level, decided to accept a call up to the set up, With head coach Engin Firat looking for more undeclared players to try and help boost the quality already at the side.
Given the side has been ravaged by injuries to key players, such as Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma. Joseph Okumu and former Gor Mahia defender Dennis Ng’ang’a Njire, Firat has cast his net far and wide, calling up four new players to the set up.
Aside from Knost and Bruce Kamau, Adam Wilson accepted call-ups to the side, and Pulse Sports understands that Bristol City defender Zak Onyego Vyner is also set to join up with the squad.
Speaking to the media during the open media training session held at the Police Sacco Stadium on Friday morning, Knost revealed how proud he was to have received his first call up to the side.
“The invitation was a huge honor. I was very excited to accept this call-up. The first day was very difficult because of the warm weather and the altitude, but in the last days, I have adapted and felt much better,” Knost shared.
“I just needed a little bit of time. I had a long flight here, short night, and after the first two days, I got time to rest and it helped me a lot.”

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has explained how he feels the players will contend with hosting Burundi and Ivory Coast in Malawi while expressing sadness over the situation.
Playing for Kenya holds significant personal meaning for Knost. “To play for the Kenya national team is a big honor and opportunity for myself and it is the biggest dream for every single player to play for the national team. It is also a chance to represent my motherland. I am very happy to be here,” he said.
Knost also commented on his initial experiences in Kenya, highlighting the warmth and hospitality he has encountered.
“The Kenyan people are very accommodating here. I can’t speak Swahili but I am trying to learn some words. I am lucky that everybody can speak English, so it is easy for me to communicate with them.”
Reflecting on his goals with the national team, Knost said, “It is the first time here myself. I want to make a good impression on the team and the coaching staff. If I get game time, it will be a huge honor for me.
“My ambitions for now are not that high. I just want to give my best in every training session and then see from there.”
As the Harambee Stars prepare to depart for Malawi, Knost's inclusion is expected to add depth to the squad, and his international experience could prove valuable in their World Cup qualification campaign.
