Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has voiced his opinion on the Blues’ recent sacking of Graham Potter.
Graham Potter was dismissed after an abysmal run of results in 2023, culminating in last Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa.
Graham Potter presided over a disappointing run of results
He left Chelsea with the club 11th in the Premier League standings and all but out of European football for next season, with a Champions League triumph, the only chance of playing in the competition next season.
The performances left a lot to be desired and the team's lack of goals was a huge factor in their slide down the table, scoring a miserly 21 goals in his 22 league games in charge.
The club have since moved to appoint former boss Frank Lampard as interim manager till the end of the season as the hierarchy look to salvage what is left of a disappointing campaign.
Mikel's verdict on Chelsea's Potter sacking
Speaking on the popular sports radio station, Dubai Eye, Mikel shared his thoughts on the now ex-Chelsea boss.
“When you look at it, I think he was given enough time.” He said.
“When you look at where the club was, in 11th after 7 months, I think he was given enough time.
“If this was the Roman Abramovic era, he would have been gone sooner.
“I think the club made the right decision. Maybe Chelsea was too big for him to manage in the end. When I see him on the touchline, he struggles to communicate with the players in a way that motivates them”
Mike joined Chelsea in 2006 for £16M and went on to make 372 appearances for the club, scoring 6 goals.
He won multiple honours during his time at Chelsea including the two Premier League titles, four FA Cup trophies, two League Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League in 2013.
He is also an AFCON winner with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
