However, with his contract set to expire in April, the Ice Cream makers have stepped up their bid to acquire Lwanga's signature.
Money bags Azam FC have resumed their interest in acquiring another Ugandan player following the latest development with Ugandan international Taddeo Lwanga.
The 28-year-old has been featuring for Djiboutian side Arta Solar, a side he joined in August 2022.
However, with his contract set to expire in April, the Ice Cream makers have stepped up their bid to acquire Lwanga's signature.
A source that preferred anonymity at Azam FC exclusively confirmed the development to Pulse Sports, adding that Lwanga would be an excellent addition after what he did at Simba.
"Yes, I have heard about it. But, for me, Lwanga is an outstanding player. He showed that while at Simba," the source told Pulse Sports.
"And that's why they (Azam) want him because he can be a great addition to them. They (Azam) know they need someone like him, so hopefully, it gets done."
This author contacted Lwanga about the development, but he remained tight-lipped.
"I have a month left on my current contract with Arta Solar, I have many offers on the table, but I am still weighing my options, so let's see how it goes," he told Pulse Sports.
However, you will be the first to know about my next destination."
The 'Engineer' played for Simba SC for two seasons, winning a domestic treble and, most notably, scored the winner for Simba in the domestic cup final against Young Africans SC.
If he seals the move, the hard-tackling midfielder will become the fourth Ugandan to play for the Ice Cream makers after forward Brian Umony, winger Brian Majwegga, goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya and right-back Nicholas Wadada.
Azam FC sit fourth on the Liigi Kuu Baara table on 47 points after 25 games played and next face Mutibwa Sugar on 15th March at Chamanzi Complex.
