According to Swift Sports, Akandwanaho is moments away from signing a two-year employment contract with the Ankole Lions.
Mbarara City are currently looking at replacing skipper Jude Ssemugabi, who is set to depart as his contract expired in June.
Besides Express, Akandwanaho has previously featured for Nyamityobora Football Club and Soltilo Bright Stars.
He boasts relative experience in the topflight as he has accumulated 73 appearances across three seasons, with the past two coming at Express
