The now-Chelsea loanee took to social media to celebrate Rashford’s debut for Aston Villa, referring to the transfer as an act of "freedom," which has not gone down well with Red Devils supporters.

Sancho’s comment sparks outrage among fans

After Rashford shared pictures from his Villa debut on Instagram, Sancho responded with a single-word comment: “Freedom,” accompanied by a blessing and raised hands emoji.

Sancho’s remark ignited fury among United fans, who saw it as a dig at the club. Many supporters felt that both players had failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford and were responsible for their own downfalls rather than being victims of managerial decisions.

Sancho, who was frozen out by Ten Hag after a public disagreement over his training habits, faced a similar situation with Erik Ten Hag to Rashford with Ruben Amorim.

Once regarded as the future of the club, Rashford fell out of favour due to inconsistent performances, off-field distractions, and a poor relationship with Amorim.

The backlash from United supporters was swift, with many accusing Sancho and Rashford of lacking professionalism and commitment. Some even suggested that Sancho’s comment disrespected the club and its fans, further straining his already damaged relationship with the Old Trafford faithful.

Emery excited by Rashford debut

Despite the drama surrounding his exit, Rashford’s debut for Aston Villa was a positive one. Coming off the bench in the FA Cup fourth-round clash against Tottenham, the England international showed flashes of his quality.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery was pleased with Rashford’s performance but admitted that it would take time for the forward to rediscover his best form

Speaking after the match, Emery said, "I am very happy with him. The conversations I’ve had were very normal—just a player and a coach speaking about football. His potential is huge, and I want to help him recover his best performances."

While his future beyond the summer remains uncertain, Rashford’s focus will now be on proving himself in the Midlands and helping Villa in their push for silverware.
