Brian Lusamukha's late goal gave Nairobi United the lead in the game that failed to witnessed the final whistle.

A last-gasp pitch invasion from a set of fans when Nairobi United where leading 1-0 against Zoo FC in an FKF Division One Promotion Playoff match played at RVIST Grounds in Nakuru on Sunday has left the clash in limbo.

This now means that the referee will write a detailed match report to the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee who will now determine the outcome of the match.

Zoo FC were  seeking to make a return to the NSL following their relegation in the 2020/21 season while Nairobi were looking to make their first ever appearance in the second-tier league.

A cagey first half produced few chances at either end, with Nairobi United defense doing well to close down the space for Danson Kiprono and Sammy Ggolola while the usually influential Bernard Ouma was harassed and harangued in midfield.

Zoo’s best effort in the early stages came from Derrick Anami on 21 minutes, with the veteran letting fly from long range and sending a shot fizzing just over the crossbar.

Nairobi had a few promising moments, including a Ina Motanda cross which was just beyond the reach of Rodgers Angal, but they also struggled to create anything with which to genuinely trouble goalkeeper Benjamin Juma.

Zoo nearly broke the deadlock in injury time at the end of the first half, with Edwin Namasaka playing a low cross from the left which was stabbed toward goal by Brian Kiplagat, but Maneno Chacha made a sharp save to ensure the interval arrived with the score line still blank.

The second half had something of a frantic opening, with Nairobi threatening via a diving header from Brian Sifa at one end, before Zoo’s Gideon Kibet saw a goal-bound effort from a scramble in the box cleared off the line by  Mugami Akidiva.

Dennis Ongeri, however, had picked up a hip injury in his earlier attacking endeavors and was replaced by Hilary Kiptoo on the hour mark.

On 75 minutes Majaliwa Charo stung the palms of Benjamin Juma with a thunderous hit from long range, in Nairobi’s first major threat on goal.

The Nai Boys  looked dangerous whenever they pushed forward and they managed to break the deadlock in the 79th minute with Brian Lusamukha netting the goal.

Keeper Benjamin Juma failed to handle a ball from the right and he blocked a shot from Omweri and Lusamukha then scored from the rebound to make it 1-0 to Nairobi United.

As much as Zoo FC tried to find an equalizer, it was not to be as a set of fans believed to be from the Kericho-based side invaded the pitch as the match failed to restart after the chaos.

How they lined up:

Zoo FC: Benjamin Juma, Brian Ojok, Patrick Matini, Brian Kiplagat, Gideon Kibet, Kepha Ondati, Sammy Ggolola, Edwin Namasaka, Dennis Ongeri, Danson Kiprono, Derrick Anami

Nairobi United: Maneno Chacha, Andrew Isaack, Bonface Ontere, Mugami Akidiva, Jim Ouma, Bernard Ouma, Brian Sifa, Rodgers Angal, Isaac Omweri, Steven Doyak, Ian Motanda
