Uganda national senior team star Fauzia Najjemba has spent the last six months at Russian side ZFK Dynamo Moscow, having joined from Kazakhstan side BIIK Shymkent in January.
Her growth reflects a meteoric rise, but it hasn’t come without its own challenges, especially playing for a team in Europe.
“Life has been good so far but of course it comes with challenges,” the 19year-old revealed in her interview with FUFA media.
“It is never easy at the beginning and I found it hard to acclimatize to the weather because it was winter time in Russia.”
“It was a different country, new team, new food, language and culture but I have slowly tried to adapt and now settling in well.”
“The club and players received me well and that perhaps helped me to fit in with relative ease,” she added.
Less than two years back, Najjemba was a player at Ugandan outfit, Kampala Queens FC. She has thus been forced into learning new cultures in a short spell.
“It is really not that easy. Majority of the players do not speak English and communication is sometimes a challenge but I am trying to learn the Russian language.”
“I can make a few statements and understand what the coaches mean during demonstrations,” Najjemba added.
Despite the difficulties, Najjemba has acquitted herself decently every time an opportunity has availed itself, and is steadily becoming a key figure at Dynamo Moscow.
“The first five games saw me register two goals and four assists. Unfortunately, I sustained an injury that kept me on the sidelines for one month.”
“The last game we played before I came for national team duty, I scored a hat trick in a cup game. I hope to keep improving and help the team attain the targets set this season,” she noted.
Najjemba is currently with the Crested Cranes that is preparing for the 2024 Olympics qualifiers against Rwanda on July 11th.
However, the team will first of all play Tanzania in an international friendly slated for the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday.
