The match ball, called OCEAUNZ will be fitted with 'Connected Ball Technology', a technological innovation that helps match officials with precise ball data to help faster and more accurate decision-making.
A spectacular occasion in Sydney on Tuesday morning witnessed the unveiling of the official match ball for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup to be hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The 2023 tournament is scheduled to be the ninth edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup competition, with 32 teams expected to participate in the expanded tournament between July 20 and August 20, 2023.
Barely sixty days to the launch of the tournament, the official match ball - "Oceaunz" - has been unveiled, although as an enormous four-metre football.
A helicopter on Tuesday morning carried on the OCEAUNZ football - created by Adidas - over the Australian capital, Sydney before landing in Bondi's Marks Park.
What does the design on 'Oceaunz' mean?
- The name OCEAUNZ is a combination of the names Oceania, Australia and New Zealand.
- The green-blue colour palette and visuals on the football are a representation of the natural landscapes of the host nations. The colour palette also celebrates the coming together of the two countries to host this tournament. The 2023 tournament would be the first time a FIFA Women's World Cup will have more than one host nation.
- The graphics on the match ball are inspired directly by the vast mountains of New Zealand and Australia’s connection with the Indian Ocean.
- The OCEAUNZ will be fitted with Connected Ball Technology, a technological innovation that helps match officials with precise ball data to help faster and more accurate decision-making.
- The sensor is powered by a rechargeable battery, which can be charged by induction. OCEAUNZ goes on purchase from Wednesday, January 25.
