Vipers SC continued their hunt for a Uganda Premier League defence, after a dominant 5-2 victory over Express at the St Mary's Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday.
A Cromwel Rwothomio brace and a goal apiece from Yunus Sentamu, Milton Karisa and Bright Anukani ensured the Kitende side stayed top with 49 points, the same tally as KCCA FC and SC Villa.
Joseph Akandanwaho and Marvin Oshaba netted the Red Eagles' goals either side of the 90, in an entertaining affair.
The Venoms, who had dominated proceedings in the early stages of the match, got rewarded after Anukani netted from the spot as Abdu Lumala was fouled in the area in the 15th minute.
Two minutes later, Sentamu made it two as he rounded goalkeeper Abdu Kimera, having received a brilliant pass from Karisa.
Five minutes to halftime, the guests pulled one back through Akandanwaho after a defensive mishap.
Vipers grabbed a third in the added minutes of the opening 45 minutes with Karisa netting superbly having received a through pass from Sentamu.
Express returned energized and grabbed their second of the evening, with Oshaba scoring in an empty net as the Venoms failed to clear a corner.
After a period of pressure from the visitors, it's the hosts that added to their tally, with substitute Rwothomio beating bodies after a Karisa ball, to net past Kimera in the 81st minute.
Four minutes later Rwothomio added another after brilliant work from Karim Watambala.
It should have been six at the death but Sentamu's stinging shot was fumbled by Kimera before it went out for a corner.
Vipers will continue the hunt with a trip to BUL FC next Tuesday at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
Express, meanwhile, will on Saturday play host to Maroons FC at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
