FKF has addressed the exclusion of Aboud Omar and Eric Johana from Harambee Stars for the Four Nations Tournament.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has disclosed that Harambee Stars' preparation for the Four Nations Tournament in Malawi faced an unforeseen setback after left-back Aboud Omar and Romania-based attacking midfielder Eric Johana were excluded from the traveling squad.

This decision was taken following a reported altercation between the two players on Wednesday night, just hours before the team's departure on Thursday morning.

In a statement released by the federation, it was revealed that Omar and Johana did not travel with the team to Malawi, and to fill the void left by these key players, AFC Leopards left-back Vincent Mahiga and Gor Mahia winger Sharif Musa were called up late to camp.

"The duo were called up late to camp in place of Aboud Omar and Eric Johana, who were released on Thursday morning. The coach is handling the matter," FKF stated, emphasizing the technical bench's role in addressing the issue.

The federation has maintained a level of discretion regarding the specifics of the altercation, opting not to disclose details in an effort to protect its players.

This incident comes at a time when the national team's coach, Engin Firat, has publicly expressed his commitment to eradicating indiscipline within the squad.

Firat's stance on discipline was highlighted by his decision to overlook Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo, citing a previous instance where the player allegedly feigned illness.

Firat detailed Odhiambo's exclusion, recounting how the player was absent without notice after the team's preparation for a friendly match in Qatar.

Despite claims of being ill with malaria, Odhiambo's prompt recovery and subsequent participation in a Gor Mahia match raised questions about his commitment to national duties.

"It is no secret and it is clear, but I am surprised how someone can write these insults online," Firat reflected on the situation and the backlash that followed his public disclosure.

Harambee Stars have since arrived in Malawi and conducted a light training session on Thursday afternoon, demonstrating their focus on the upcoming Four Nations Tournament despite the off-field drama.

The team is set to open their campaign against the host nation, Malawi, at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday at 4 pm EAT.
