KCB coach Bernard Mwalala is employing a cautious approach towards their FKF Cup semi-final as winning the competition will provide some respite after a tough league campaign.

KCB head coach Bernard Mwalala has adopted a cautious approach when discussing his team's prospects in next season's CAF Confederation Cup, as they prepare to face Kariobangi Sharks in the semi-finals of the FKF Cup on May 26 at Dandora Stadium.

Following a hard-fought victory over reigning champions in the Cup quarter-finals, courtesy of Dan Namasaka's second-half goal, Mwalala remains steadfast in his focus on the upcoming clash against Kariobangi Sharks, refusing to entertain discussions about winning the cup or continental football just yet.

"We took a leap towards the title following the win against the defending champions but the biggest challenge lies ahead. I don’t want to think about the title and continental football yet we’ve not even qualified for the final," Mwalala stated in an interview with Citizen Digital.

The winner of the FKF Cup earns the opportunity to represent the country in CAF Confederation Cup competition the following season. Despite his past success, having won the Cup with Bandari in 2019, Mwalala maintains a pragmatic stance, acknowledging the need to focus on each match as it comes.

"You can't be thinking about the continental championship yet you haven't played the final. However, the ambitions are there and everyone wants to play continental football. The boys are charged up and we believe it's possible to get there," Mwalala added.

In the other semi-final fixture, Police FC will square it off against AFC Leopards, setting the stage for an exciting climax to the FKF Cup campaign. Both teams showcased their prowess in the quarter-finals, with Police dispatching Sofapaka 4-0 and AFC Leopards securing a 3-1 victory over Compel FC.

As KCB look to improve their league form, currently languishing with one win in their last 10 matches, their upcoming fixture against Kariobangi Sharks presents an opportunity for redemption and momentum ahead of the cup semi-finals.
