What to expect from re-run
The re-run will see the top two pairs, Hussein Mohammed-McDonald Mariga and Barry Otieno-Lucy Kageni, battle it out for the presidency, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown that will determine the future of Kenyan football.
This is after Petra officially conceded defeat, setting up for an interesting battle ahead, as Otieno could potentially have coluded with Petra to take up his delegates.
"I hereby concede the election to Hussein Mohammed and I am backing him to take football to the next level," Petra stated on her statement.
Hussein Mohammed's strong showing in the first round highlights the appeal of his campaign, which has centered on transparency, grassroots development, and a renewed focus on restoring credibility to FKF. His running mate, McDonald Mariga, a household name in Kenyan football, has also brought star power and resonance with players and fans alike.
Despite finishing second in the first round, Doris Petra remains a formidable contender. Alongside outgoing FKF President Nick Mwendwa, who is vying for the vice presidency, Petra’s campaign has emphasized continuity and inclusion. Should she succeed in the re-run, Petra would become FKF’s first female president, a landmark achievement for Kenyan football.
With 90 delegates holding the keys to the future of FKF leadership, the re-run promises to be closely contested. Both camps are expected to intensify their lobbying efforts in the coming hours as they seek to secure the necessary votes.
