FKF delegates have backed decision to bar Hussein Mohamed from AGM for not being a registered official,.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has received the backing of delegates following its decision to deny Murang’a Seal's request to have Hussein Mohamed at the FKF's Annual General Meeting (AGM).

This significant move comes after Mohamed was declared ineligible to attend the meeting, despite the club’s endorsement, due to not being officially registered as a club official.

In a unified show of support for the federation's stance, delegates gathered for a press conference at a Nairobi hotel, vehemently opposing any attempts to bypass FKF’s regulations.

The AGM, set to take place at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) in Nairobi on Saturday, 16 March, has become the center of attention with this controversy.

Nairobi City Stars CEO Patrick Korir, representing FKF Premier League clubs, cited the FKF Constitution of 2017 and the Rules and Regulations Governing Kenyan Football of 2019, highlighting the necessity for clubs and members to comply with Article 8.14

“So, dear members of the fourth estate, if a club presents someone not registered with the federation as an official or a member, do they have any right to be part of the AGM? I leave that question to you. What we, as KPL clubs, are saying is that we must always comply with those two articles. Any club that does not comply should not cause a crisis for the rest of us," he said.

Swaleh Yusuf, chairman of Darajani Gogo, on behalf of the 20 teams participating in the National Super League (NSL), expressed his dismay over the situation, emphasizing the disrespect such actions show towards the delegates and the federation's constitution.

“We will not allow any member, knowingly or unknowingly, to disrespect the FKF constitution. We, the NSL club representation, have 10 clubs that will be represented at the AGM tomorrow. All clubs are compliant with the FKF constitution, specifically Article 23 of our 2017 Constitution.

"We want to make it clear, categorically, that it comes from us, the delegates who will attend the AGM, that we are going to follow the rules of the Constitution tomorrow,” Yusuf asserted.

The controversy stems from a letter from FKF CEO Barry Otieno, outlining the reasons for Mohamed's ineligibility, which is grounded in non-compliance with Articles L02 and L03 of the FKF Club Licensing Regulations and Articles 54 and 55 of the CAF men’s club licensing regulations (2022).

Otieno’s letter made it clear that Mohamed is not registered with FKF as a member of Murang’a Seal or FKF in general, in accordance with Article 11 of the FKF constitution (2017) and Article 8.1.4 of the FKF regulations governing Kenyan football (2019).

Despite the federation's firm stance, a top official affiliated with Mohamed’s team insisted that the administrator would attend the meeting with or without FKF's blessing.
