Arsenal dropped points against West Ham as Manchester City closed the point gap to just four points with a game in hand on the league leaders

The Gunners failed to secure a win against West Ham after going two goals up in the first 20 minutes of the first half. They were pegged back by a resilient West Ham team as both teams settled for a draw.

It would be a disaster, according to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, if the Gunners did not defeat Manchester City for the title.

Arsenal slips in two successive games

The league leaders conceded a lead for the second game in a row, which gave West Ham the opportunity to recover and earn a draw.

Arsenal's chances of winning their first league title in almost 20 years were damaged by the dropped points, as Manchester City closed the gap to just four points with a game in hand.

With just four points separating both teams, it's looking more likely the league will be decided at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday when both teams will meet.

Arsenal fails to maintain gap

The Gunners failed to maintain their six points gap at the top of the table after playing a 2-2 draw against West Ham at the London stadium.

Speaking after the game, Hasselbaink said, “They were seven points clear. It would be a disaster, you’ve been leading the whole way. To give it away in the last three matches, it’s a disaster. It doesn’t matter if you’re not thinking to be No 1 at the beginning of the season, you’ve been No 1 for the whole way.

“We don’t know what is going to happen next year, everyone is going to get stronger. They might not be in this position again. It’s not a terrible season but they would have given it away”

Before heading to Manchester City on Wednesday, April 26 for a match that might determine the winner of the championship, Arteta's team welcomes Southampton to the Emirates Stadium in an effort to put some distance between themselves and the reigning champions.
