The Confederation of African Football is mourning the death of a 21-year-old footballer who died on the pitch during a topflight league game in Ivory Coast.
According to his Racing Club d'Abidjan, the youngster suddenly collapsed and died on the pitch during their Ivorian Ligue 1 LONACI fixture against Sol FC.
“Our defender Sylla Moustapha, died this evening after a discomfort on the ground during the RCA vs Sol FC match. Management sends sincere condolences to the Biological family,” the club announced.
The CAF President Patrice Motsepe sent his condolences on Tuesday to Ivory Coast and the family of the former left back.
“Dr. Motsepe and the CAF Family mourn the tragic passing of such a young life who showed promise on the football field,” the CAF statement reads.
“CAF conveys deepest condolences to the family of Sylla Moustapha, Ivorian Football Federation President Idriss Diallo, Racing Club d'Abidjan Family and the Ivorian people during this time of grieving.”
The match officials are said to have ordered the match to go on after the incident with Racing winning 3-1 at the end.
