Forlan joined Manchester United in 2002 as a talented youngster from Independiente for £6.9 million.
He spent three years with the Red Devils before moving to La Liga, playing for Villarreal in the 2004/2005 season and Atlético Madrid in the 2007/2008 campaign.

Although his time at the club was relatively short, Forlan's most memorable moment came at Anfield, where he scored a three-minute brace against Liverpool in a 2-1 victory.
In 97 appearances, Forlan scored 17 times for the Red Devils, 10 of the goals were scored for the Reds in the Premier League.

Despite limited game time, which led to his departure in 2004, the 45-year-old Forlan spoke fondly of his former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
On how the legendary United boss was able to motivate players year on, Forlan emphasised the privilege of playing under Ferguson, highlighting the impact of the team's quality and history on players.

"Well, it was a true privilege to have had the opportunity to play in a team with Ferguson as coach," Forlan stated.
"The fact when I was playing for Manchester United and to have Ferguson as coach, the team, the quality and the history, that really motivated you (as a player) to give your utmost.”

He further acknowledged Ferguson's place in football history, adding, "So, as I said, it's a true privilege to have been in a team that was coached by Ferguson. He was a fantastic player, and I think he is one of the best coaches that existed in the history of football"
While both Sir Ferguson and Forlan have retired, the former striker's words could offer invaluable insights to the Reds' current coach Ruben Amorim, who is struggling to motivate his players at the club.
