A former Gor Mahia coach has returned to South Africa to lead a relocated club in the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.

Former Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr is set to return to South Africa for a second spell at Marumo Gallants, a club now relocating to Bloemfontein.

This move marks another chapter in Kerr's storied coaching career, characterized by high-profile engagements and notable achievements across African football.

Marumo Gallants, who recently acquired the topflight status of Moroka Swallows, are preparing for the new 2024/25 DStv Premiership season with Kerr at the helm.

The club's relocation to the Free State adds a fresh twist to their journey, reminiscent of Royal AM's acquisition of Bloemfontein Celtic's status just days before the start of the 2021/22 season.

That transition saw players move from the Free State to KwaZulu-Natal amidst financial turmoil and unpaid salaries, a scenario Gallants will be keen to avoid.

Kerr's previous tenure at Gallants was a mix of highs and lows as he led the team to the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals in the 2022/23 season.

However, the joy was short-lived as Gallants were relegated from the topflight on the final day of the season.

Despite this setback, Kerr parted ways with the club on good terms, as evidenced by his recent reappointment.

The English coach has a rich history in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), particularly in the Limpopo province.

He has managed several clubs, including Black Leopards, Baroka FC, TTM, and Gallants.

His tenure with these teams often saw him stepping in during critical times, saving them from relegation and leading them to significant victories.

Notably, Kerr guided Gallants, then known as TTM, to a Nedbank Cup triumph in 2021.

Kerr's coaching journey is not without its challenges as during his previous stint with Gallants, he faced issues with an unapproved work permit, which forced him to watch matches from the stands.

Despite this limitation, he led the team to the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup, where they were eliminated by Young Africans.

His resilience and ability to adapt to adverse situations have earned him respect and admiration in the football community.

Before his adventures in South Africa, Kerr made a name for himself in Kenya with Gor Mahia.

Appointed in 2016 after the departure of Brazilian coach Jose Marcelo Ze Maria, Kerr enjoyed a successful tenure at the Kenyan club.

He guided Gor Mahia to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup and secured two Super Cup titles, cementing his reputation as a top-tier coach in African football.

The upcoming 2024/25 DStv Premiership season promises to be an exciting period for Marumo Gallants and Dylan Kerr.
