Former Gor Mahia coach Mark Harrison joins a new team in Africa after leaving Malawian side Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

Former Gor Mahia head coach Mark Harrison has taken charge of Mozambique giants União Desportiva do Songo (UD Songo) marking a new chapter in his extensive coaching career.

Harrison, known for his dynamic coaching style and strategic acumen, steps into this role less than two weeks after his departure from Malawi Super League's Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

"The management of Songo Sports Union is delighted to announce Mark Simon Harrison as the new head coach. His rich background in African football and his expertise are invaluable assets for our team," read a statement from UD Songo.

Harrison, a former Stoke City goalkeeper, brings a wealth of experience to the club, having coached in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Malawi, and Botswana.

Harrison's journey in African football has been marked by a series of impactful tenures.

His coaching career saw him leading teams like Golden Arrows and Black Leopards in the South Africa Premier Soccer League.

Notably, his time in Botswana with Township Rollers and in Zimbabwe with CAPS United and Harare City further solidified his reputation in the African football scene.

His five-month tenure with Gor Mahia, the Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions, was particularly notable.

Harrison joined Gor Mahia in August 2021, replacing Portuguese coach Vaz Pinto. His approach and tactical insights during this period were highly regarded, though his time with the club was relatively short.

Harrison's departure from the Mighty Mukuru Wanderers came in the wake of a 4-2 post-match defeat against rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the semis of the Castel Challenge Cup.

This move to UD Songo is seen as a fresh start for Harrison, an opportunity to apply his diverse coaching experience in a new environment.

Critics have sometimes labeled Harrison a 'job-hopper' due to his frequent moves between clubs.

However, supporters and football analysts often cite his adaptability and deep understanding of the game as strengths that make him a valuable asset to any team.
