The wave of former players studying coaching badges with the hope of later practicing the role has been noticed by many.

Tonny Mawejje, Brian Umony, Mike Mutyaba, and Saddam Juma are some of the prominent names undertaking a CAF C coaching course, with CAF instructors like Mujib Kasule and Jackson Nyima handling the sessions.

Singida Big Stars goalkeeping coach Steven Billy Kiggundu says it's a good step taken by the ex-players.

Still, he argues that diversifying into other roles like performance analysis, fitness trainers, and playing position roles are different roles ex-players can diversify in.

"Firstly, I salute them for coming forward to study, it's a process," Kiggundu told Pulse Sorts.

"But they need to show resilience because this is a job that requires a lot of time; however after they should diversify."

"Football today has many other roles apart from coaching, like being a fitness trainer, performance analyst, gym instruction and many others. So I urge the former players to study such roles."

Kiggundu added: "At Singinda, the club looked to replace a physical trainer but lacked available options, so they headhunted and got one from Kenyan side Gor Mahia because today in football, body conditioning is a key element,"

"Azam FC has up to 19 staff, and everyone plays a different role, so the opportunity might not be in Uganda but elsewhere."

As much as such roles are vital in football, most Ugandan clubs still need to adopt the idea of employing such personnel, and the finances haven't allowed them to.

Lewis Ainebyona, currently at Express FC, is one of the few recognized Performance analysts in Ugandan football.

At the same time, Arthur Kyesimira, currently with the Uganda Cranes, is also a qualified Germany-trained fitness trainer.
