When Bolton Omwenga was called up by Jacob "Ghost" Mulee in September 2021 for Kenya's opening World Cup 2022 qualifying matches against Uganda and Rwanda, he certainly did not envision that his career would then take a dramatic turn for the worse.
However, it was with Kagera Sugar that he last graced the pitch in early 2022 after suffering a nasty knee injury His bid to return to the Kenyan top tier after exiting Kagera was scuttled by the fact that he spent the better part of 2022 in the General Service Unit (GSU) Recruits Training School.
Further, he picked up the nasty injury the same year and would go under the knife in July last year to repair multiple tears on the knee.He has since fully recovered but himself sidelined from competitive football, grappling with the repercussions of his choices.

He has appeared to express regret at the injury he suffered which effectively has prevented him from abeing active over the last two years.
Expressing his frustrations and deep introspection, Omwenga took to his Facebook account to share his inner turmoil. In a poignant message, he questioned the decisions that led him to this juncture of inactivity.
"God, you know me better than I know myself... two years inactive," Omwenga lamented.
"Where did I go wrong? Was the decision right? Where did I go wrong...I sacrificed a lot over this, but now the outcome has ruined my life."
