The StarTimes Uganda Premier League curtain raiser fixture - the FUFA Super Cup, will not happen as planned, Pulse Sports can confirm.

The fixture attracts the winner of the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup in this case, Vipers, the domestic double winners against KCCA FC, who finished second last season, will not take place due to the busy schedules for both clubs, especially KCCA FC.

"It's true, for now, it (FUFA Super Cup) can't happen," Aisha Nalule, the FUFA competitions committee head, told Pulse Sports in an interview.

"Because of the tight schedule at hand, KCCA FC have continental football, and Vipers just played on the continent, so we can't seem to find a common ground."

"We also don't have a venue (neutral) for the game, so hopefully, when everything settles, we can have the game played even midway through the season; I don't think that's wrong," Nalule added.

While the 2023/2024 season starts this Friday, KCCA FC will be on the continent; they face Libyan side Abu Salem FC in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round.

The first leg is set to take place on Sunday, 17th September, in Egypt, while the return leg will take place on 23rd September at St. Mary's stadium Kitende.

The Venoms, however, were bundled out of the CAF Champions League in the first preliminary round by Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy in August.

The FUFA Super Cup was created in 2012, with URA FC claiming the first edition after they edged Express FC, but KCCA FC has won the most titles (6) since the competition started.
