It was tears and jeers on one end, with cheers and jubilations on the other on match-day one of the inaugural FUFA TV Schools tournament over the weekend.

The competition, which got underway on Saturday, had each of Mengo Secondary School, Jinja College, St. Mary's College Kisubi and Kiira College Butiki pick their maiden wins.

The victories came at the expense of Makerere College School, Busoga College Mwiri, King's College Budo and Namilyango College, respectively.

For the first ever match in the history of the competition, Mengo walked home emphatic 4-1 winners over Makerere, thanks to goals from Ambrose Adeya, Ukasha Ssentamu and a John Senfuma brace.

Brian Mukulu came up with Makerere's consolation, which was also the first ever goal of the competition.

Later on Saturday, at home turf, Kiira College managed a narrow 2-1 win over Namilyango, courtesy of goals from Ernest Olukor and Simon Odeke, with Mathias Erima netting the latter's only goal of the day.

Jinja College, earlier on Sunday on enemy territory, needed a slim 1-0 win over Busoga College, thanks to a solitary strike from Elvis Kigongo.

St Mary's College, Kisubi at home, then rounded off the opening round with a comfortable 2-0 win over regional neighbors Budo, courtesy of goals from Mahad Mubiru and Griffin Mwesigwa.

In similar fixtures, the schools will face off again in return legs between June 14-17 at the opposite grounds.

A winner from each pairing will make the semi-finals, which will also be played on a home and away basis on June 21 (first leg) and 25 (second leg).

The final, which will be played over a single match, will then take place on July 01 at a yet-to-be identified venue.
