Mitrovic receives a lengthy ban for his role in the melee at Old Trafford

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has been suspended for eight matches by the English FA for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh during the FA Cup match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Mitrovic banned for pushing referee

Alexander Mitrovic pushed centre referee Kavanagh after he sent off Fulham teammate Willian during the defeat to Manchester United and was sent off after a straight red card.

He was initially banned for three matches for the straight red card, but upon review, the ban was extended to eight matches.

Fulham’s exit from all other domestic competitions means that Mitrovic will serve the entire ban in the league, which will leave him with only three Premier League matches to play in the 2022/23 season.

Mitrovic has already served one match of the ban in Fulham’s loss to Bournemouth in the last gameweek and will miss the next seven matches for the London side.

The forward will also pay a fine of £75,000 for the incident in addition to the ban, which represents roughly a week’s wages for the Serbian.

Silva and Fulham also punished for Old Trafford incident

Mitrovic will miss games against West Ham, Everton, Leeds, Aston Villa, and Manchester City in April, as well as games against Liverpool and Leicester in May.

He will only return for the last three games of the season against Southampton, Crystal Palace, and Manchester United in the Premier League.

In addition to Mitrovic’s ban, Fulham manager Marco Silva also received a two-match ban and will be required to pay two separate £20,000 fines.

One for the incident that saw him get sent off against Manchester United, and another for his comments after the game.

Fulham have also been fined £40,000 for failing to control their staff and players during the incident against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
