Ex-PSG manager Christophe Galtier has released a statement following his exit and replacement

Former Paris Saint Germain coach Christophe Galtier has spoken for the first time since being axed from his position at Les Parisiens.

Galtier extends gratitude to PSG management and players

The French manager was replaced by Spanish gaffer Luis Enrique after only one season in charge of PSG, and the 2023 Ligue 1 champion was graceful in his exit statement, despite being dismissed from the club against his wishes and after claiming the league title.

Galtier had spoken on several occasions about wanting to continue at PSG, but the French coach was still grateful to the club for the opportunity.

Speaking after his exit from the club on Thursday, Galtier said, “I would like to say ‘Thank you’ after such an intense season. They [the players] were magnificent in their commitment in going after a historic 11th league title.“

Galtier wishes Luis Enrique and PSG well following replacement

The former Lille manager is currently under investigation for alleged Islamophobic and racist comments made while he was Nice coach, but has not allowed the hardship or his disappointment at losing his job to cloud his demeanour.

Galtier thanked PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi for trusting him with the Les Parisiens job, thanking him “for his unflinching support, especially in the most difficult times.”

The French coach also wished his successor Luis Enrique well in the PSG job, saying, “I sincerely hope PSG experience another intense and emotional season, and best of luck to Luis Enrique.”

Luis Enrique resumed as PSG manager hoping to better his predecessor’s achievement of winning Ligue 1 despite the club struggling to keep its best players.
