Cameroon faces a setback as three key players, including Inter Milan defender Yann Aurel Bisseck reject call-up ahead of the crucial 2025 AFCON qualifiers double-header against Kenya
Three Cameroonian stars have reportedly rejected a call-up from the Indomitable Lions ahead of their crucial double-header in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Harambee Stars.
The games are scheduled for October 11 in Yaounde, Cameroon and October 14 in Uganda.
According to Camerounweb, Indomitable Lions press officer Germain Noel Essengue, Inter Milan's Yann Aurel Bisseck, Eric-Junior Dina-Ebimbe of Eintracht Frankfurt and Nicky Beloko, who plays for Swiss side FC Luzern, have asked for more time to consider their participation.

Harambee Stars goalkeeper Ian Otieno put himself in contention for selection to the national team following a man of the match display for his South African club on Sunday.
These three dual nationals were pre-selected by the team’s Belgian coach, Marc Brys, but are reportedly hesitant to commit to the national team at this critical stage of the qualification process.
The absence of these young, promising talents could pose a challenge for Cameroon especially given the growing trend of European-born players with Cameroonian heritage opting to delay or forgo representing the Indomitable Lions.
Bisseck, a powerful center-back at Inter Milan, and Dina-Ebimbe, a versatile midfielder in the Bundesliga, would have bolstered both the defense and midfield significantly. Beloko’s skillset as a midfielder, combined with his experience in Switzerland’s Super League, would also have added depth to the squad.
Despite the trio’s reluctance, Cameroon’s squad still includes several well-established stars.

Harambee Stars midfielder on the radar of Premier League outfit Brentford
The former Nairobi City Stars man was reportedly scouted by Brentford and Luton scouts on his Europa League debut for Swedish outfit Elfsborg against Az Alkmar, a game he ended up scoring and assisting.
Captain Vincent Aboubakar will lead the team alongside stalwarts such as goalkeeper Andre Onana, Michael Ngadeu Ngadjui, and Collins Fai in defense. However, it is Brys’ integration of younger talents that has captured the attention of fans and analysts alike.
Flavien Enzo Boyomo, who plays for CA Osasuna in Spain, and James Willy Djeungoue from Slovakian club MŠK Žilina, are two notable new faces who have been called up. They will add defensive options, while winger Patrick Socko of SD Huesca and midfielder Niky Beloko (also pre-selected despite his hesitance) were included to strengthen Cameroon’s attacking and midfield options.
The Indomitable Lions began their qualification campaign with a solid 1-0 win over Namibia and a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe. They sit in a favorable position in Group J but face a Kenyan team full of confidence after a 2-1 victory over Namibia.
With both teams needing strong results in this double-header to secure AFCON qualification, Cameroon will be looking to cement their place at the top of the group despite the trio’s absence.
