After 14 years with the national team, Thomas Muller has announced his retirement
On Monday morning, Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller officially announced his retirement from international football following Germany's exit from the 2024 European Championship.
Muller closes chapter on illustrious Germany career
In a heartfelt video message shared via Muller stated: “I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the team on the way to the 2026 World Cup – now as a fan and no longer as a player on the green pitch. Bye! See you soon…” This marks the end of a remarkable 14-year international career for the 34-year-old forward.
Muller's international career has been nothing short of extraordinary as over the course of 14 years, he played 131 times for Germany, scoring 45 goals.
Muller’s top achievements with Germany
His brightest moment in a Germany shirt came when Germany won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, with Muller scoring five goals and claiming the Silver Boot and Silver Ball.
Muller's breakthrough on the international stage came during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he also scored five goals, helping Germany secure a third-place finish.
The Bayern Munich star is also in the top 10 highest-goalscorers in World Cup history, as well as being Germany’s sixth highest goalscorer and third highest appearance maker of all time.
