Vipers resume their continental voyage with their first group game at home against Guinea’s Horoya AC, at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende which according to Karisa is a chance to get it right.

Vipers SC captain Milton Karisa has told his teammates they should not let the burden of their horror defeat to Raja Casablanca way them down, but must ‘get up again and move forward as a team’.

Vipers was outplayed and outclassed in their opening group G game of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League at the Muhammad V Complex in Casablanca, as they horrible lost 5-0.

Not only was the score line alarming, but the manner of the defeat was chastening for the Venoms, who must now quickly forget whatever transpired in the game and quickly move on.

“After a result like Friday’s, I think the first 48 hours are about digesting what happened and being critical with your own performance,” Karisa told the club’s website.

“After that you can ask some questions, sit together as a team and move forward from there.”

“But you need to do that as a group, without any friction or individual finger pointing, because we are a team.

“One day you make a mistake, but the next time maybe you will win the game. If one of your team-mates makes a mistake, the next one has to step in to avoid that mistake costing us something.

“That’s the important thing about being a team, and that determines how good you can be,” he added.

Khabba Hamza, Harkass Jamal, Azrida Muhamed scored in the first half, before Bouzok Yousir and Roger Aholou scored in the second half.

There were countless defensive lapses by Vipers during the match, with goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza calpable for the opening two games, but helped keep the score line from getting worse with several saves in the second half.

Vipers resume their continental voyage with their first group game at home against Guinea’s Horoya AC, at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende which according to Karisa is a chance to get it right.

“Everybody is upset with what happened on Friday, but we don’t need any extra motivation for a game as big as Saturday’s,” Karisa insisted.

“We need to get up again, and I know we have the capability to do that.”

“We have got a great chance to get this right. We know how important it is to win that game against Horoya.”

Horoya are record winners of the Guinean league with 20 league titles, winning the last seven league titles in a row, consistently playing in the Champions League since 2016.

During that period, they have reached the group stages of the competition on four occasions, breaking barriers to reach the quarter finals in 2018 and 2019.
