The Uganda Cranes international, who has managed one appearance for the green and yellow army against Kaizer Chiefs in a club international friendly, is in line to make his derby debut with Young Africans.

Gift Fred could debut at Tanzania’s most prominent football stage, the Kariakoo Derby when Young Africans and Simba face off in the Tanzanian charity shield final in Tanga.

The Uganda Cranes international, who has managed one appearance for the green and yellow army against Kaizer Chiefs in a club international friendly, is in line to make his derby debut with Young Africans.

Playing in a new format of the charity shield, Young Africans and Simba picked up semifinal victories against Azam FC and Singida Fountain Gate FC on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, as they lined up a derby clash in the final.

The former SC Villa skipper put up a solid display in his first appearance, winning over the Young Africans faithful, who nicknamed him the vacuum cleaner.

Meanwhile, compatriot Khalid Aucho featured for the better part of the semifinal as Clement Mkhize and Stephanie Aziz KI scored two second-half goals to seal a 2-0 win against the Ice Cream makers.

The first of three Kariakoo Derbies this season will see Simba try to win silverware for the first time in two seasons, with Young Africans having claimed a domestic treble in the past two campaigns.

Both camps have beefed up their squads, with the Msimbazi-based side re-signing Mozambican international Luis Miquissone and Cameroonian forward Willy Essomba Onana, among others.

While ‘Tiimu ya Mwanainchi’ has brought in several players, including former Simba player Jonas Mkude who will be expected to feature against his former side on Sunday.
