The newly refurbished Nakivubo stadium is set to have floodlights and goal-line technology, Pulse Sports can confirm.
With the playing turf and seats already fitted,Ivan Ssewankambo, the stadium's structural engineer confirmed that installing floodlights and goal-line technology, which they hope will be used during matches is the next step.
“We have installed the goal posts and the bases for the floodlights,” Ssewankambo, the stadium’s structural engineer, noted.
“The full installation of the turf is now complete, including the goal posts and the dugouts for both the home and away teams,” he added.
Ssewankambo also revealed that two weeks ago, a Swiss-based FIFA-licensed company in goal-line technology installation visited the stadium and will return with the stadium designs.
“We await the preliminary designs so that we can add provisions for the conduits so that by the time we start installing cables for the goal-line technology, they can return and inspect the work.”
“They are also giving us the standard dimensions for the VAR room so that we can set it up, too. They inspected it, and we agreed on the positioning.”
“They took our designs, and they’re going to come out with a layout on how the cables can be placed,” Ssewankambo added.
Nakivubo Background
In 2015, President H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni endorsed the redevelopment of Nakivubo Stadium, that however, didn’t start until 2021, with investor Ham Kigunddu focusing on lockup shops around the facility.
Although it later picked up the pace as the terraces, parking and playing surface were completed.
With the projected opening set for January 2024, reports indicate that Nakivubo will most likely be open by November 2023.
