As Arsenal's David Raya celebrates winning his first Premier League Golden Glove, we look at the goalkeepers who have won the prestigious award the most
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya's recent Golden Glove victory in the Premier League cemented his status in an elite club of shot-stoppers. Raya joins a renowned line of goalkeepers who have shown outstanding skill, consistency, and resilience between the posts throughout the Premier League's history.
As Raya celebrates this significant milestone in his career, it's worth looking at other goalkeepers who have achieved this great honour before the Arsenal number one.
David Raya, Edwin van der Sar, Wojciech Szczesny, Thibaut Courtois — 1
Raya became the latest entrant to the club claiming the 2023/24 Golden Glove after fine performances for Arsenal.
Iconic Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar won the award in the 2008/09 season when the Red Devils also won the Premier League.
Another Arsenal star, Wojciech Szczesny shared the honour with Chelsea’s Petr Cech in the 2013/14 season after they both kept 16 clean sheets.
Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also kept 16 clean sheets in the 2016/17 season when he won the Golden Glove.
David de Gea, Alisson Becker — 2
Manchester United icon David de Gea won the Golden Glove on two occasions. In the 2017/18 season and his final campaign in the 2022/23, keeping 18 and 17 clean sheets respectively.
Liverpool’s Alisson has also held the prestigious honour twice. In the 2018/19 and 2021/22 campaigns with 21 and 20 clean sheets. The Brazilian shared the Golden Glove in 2022 with compatriot Ederson at Manchester City after they both kept the same number of clean sheets.
Ederson, Pepe Reina — 3
In addition to the 2021/22 crown, Ederson also won the Golden Glove in 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns, claiming the award three times in a row. The Manchester City goalkeeper kept 16, 19, and 20 clean sheets in consecutive campaigns between 2020 and 2022.
Liverpool’s Pepe Reina also won the Golden Glove in three consecutive campaigns after being awarded the 2005/06, 2006/07, and 2007/08 trophies after keeping 20, 19, and 18 clean sheets respectively in those seasons.
Joe Hart, Petr Cech — 4
Manchester City legend Joe Hart is joint top with Chelsea and Arsenal icon Cech on the list of most Premier League Golden Gloves after the pair collected four awards during their Premier League careers.
The Englishman won the award consecutively in three seasons between 2011 and 2013 and won yet again in the 2014/15 season.
Cech was a defensive rock for Chelsea and Arsenal and is the only goalkeeper to win the Golden Glove with two different clubs since the award’s inception.
The ex-Czech Republic international won the Golden Glove in its first season with 24 clean sheets, which was also Cech’s first season in the Premier League with Chelsea. He went on to win the award in the 2009–10 and 2013–14 seasons with Chelsea as well as the 2015–16 campaign with Arsenal.
