The highly respected coach is refusing to 'refund' FKF the money paid in his account.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and football coach and former Kenyan international Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor are embroiled in a bitter struggle for Sh1.2 million ‘erroneously deposited in Solo’s accounts in December last year.

FKF are trying to repossess the money but Solo is adamant the money is his to keep. He is even demanding a further Sh700,000 from the federation for services rendered from 2019 under various capacities for the national teams.

Solo was engaged by FKF in 2019 as a Youth coach but never earned any coin despite working for the federation as Kenya Under 19 played against Egypt,

Burundi and Tanzania. He was later engaged to coach Harambee Starlets but was never paid anything despite working for the national women’s football team when they played against South Sudan home and away.

Solo contends that FKF owed him a total of Sh1.9 million for his services and was excited when finance director Christine Ojodeh contacted him in December of 2023 about the payment. Through his lawyers Solo says he submitted his bank account details to the federation and was paid after making a phone call to follow up.

His issue with FKF started after the money hit his account when FKF CEO Barry Otieno contacted him informally demanding the money. He says Barry Otieno has harassed him over the money yet he is still due Sh700,000.

In a letter dated 2nd January 2024, Solo through his lawyers Hussein and Omar Advocates LLp wrote a protest letter to FKF over the same. Solo wants the harassment to stop and the remaining amount of money owed to him paid.

“Our client is worried that should he comply with the request of Christine Ojodeh and Barry Otieno, he will lose his pending salaries and remunerations to which he is entitled. Our client is further worried about the ongoing harassment on the purported erroneous transfers,” Solo’s lawyers say

Efforts to reach FKF CEO Barry Otieno were futile as he did not answer phone calls.
