Former Chelsea and Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi has shared his thoughts on the future of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen is the hottest striker in Europe at the moment, and his services will be highly sought after when the summer transfer window opens.

Chelsea, in particular, are expected to prioritize signing a striker, having struggled with goals and clinical finishing for most of the season..

The Blues nearly landed Osimhen last summer, but their bid fell short, and he joined Galatasaray on loan, where he has scored 28 goals in 32 games.

Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has long been advocating for Osimhen's signing, believing the Nigerian international would be a perfect fit for the club.

On the Obi One Podcast, Mikel revealed that Osimhen remains eager to join Chelsea and emulate his idol, Didier Drogba.

"Listen, it will be really sad if we don’t get a player who supported us as a kid and wants to play for this Football Club," Mikel said.

"His idol is Drogba, he will want to break records, win us trophies, get us back to the top, come for Drogba’s records. I’m telling you that would be his mission.

If the club chose not to pursue it, then well fair enough, good luck to them, but the good thing about it is we know where we left it, we can literally pick the phone up and get him straight in the door."

However, Chelsea are reportedly exploring a more affordable option in Ipswich Town's Liam Delap, who is four years younger than Osimhen and has a relegation release clause of £30 million.

Osimhen's future remains up in the air, and there is a belief that he could end up in Saudi Arabia if a move to England fails to materialise.
