FKFPL Gor Mahia aiming to extend their lead against Posta Rangers

K'Ogalo coach McKinstry targets three points against the Mail Men on Sunday to aid their quest for the league title.

Gor Mahia will look to strengthen their position at the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) standings on Sunday when they host Posta Rangers at Nyayo National Stadium.

K'Ogalo have a one-point lead over second-placed Tusker, who closed the gap between the two teams after beating Kenya Police on Saturday.

Jonathan McKinstry's charges have lost only two games this season, claiming 15 wins and seven draws from 24 fixtures. They also boast the best defensive record, with only 12 goals conceded.

Gor's most recent outing was a 2-1 victory over Bandari FC on Wednesday in a league match played away in Mombasa.

Despite the team's dominance this season, McKinstry believes his charges need to be more clinical with the quality that they have.

"Our points per game are the highest this season, and we must keep doing it. If we maintain our form in the last five games, we'll maintain the top spot for the entire season," McKinstry told the media.

Meanwhile, Posta Rangers are looking to cause an upset as they aim for the top eight.

Rangers currently occupy ninth position in the standings but could leap up to eighth if they beat Gor, who are favorites, to win the title this season.

In the midseason transfer window, John Kamau, Posta Rangers coach, did not bolster his striking department, as they have only scored 22 times in the 24 matches they have played so far this season.

"We have a good side, but yes, we have been struggling to score. I, however, trust my strikers. We shall get results," Kamau told reporters.

The Mail Men have only lost two of their last five league games as they beat Bidco United, City Stars, and Talanta.

The last time these two sides met was on 8 January when Gor Mahia won 2-0 at Thika Municipal Stadium.

Meanwhile, an improved Kakamega Homeboyz side will take on a wounded AFC Leopards in an Ingo Derby at Bukhungu Stadium.

It will be a continuation of an eight-year battle on the pitch that, while behind the Mashemeji derby, is perhaps the second fiercest rivalry in the land and, in the eyes of many, has been the most entertaining down the years, usually packed with goals.

The Abana Abeingo are heading into this encounter after beating Kariobangi Sharks 3-1 in their last outing away in Nairobi.

As a result, Homeboyz are placed 11th on the league standings with 32 points, eight adrift sixth-placed Leopards held to a goalless draw by colorless Talanta last Wednesday.

Leopards coach Patrick Aussems was not impressed by his charges' display in their last outing.

“There was nothing to talk about the game. We were not aggressive enough offensively, and we did not create much. It was not a good performance and we were lucky to get a draw,” the tactician said.

When the teams met earlier this season, at the Nyayo National Stadium in January, both teams played to a goalless stalemate.
