Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala is reportedly close to finalising a loan deal to Algeria after weeks of speculation over his future
Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala is reportedly close to finalising a loan move away from the club before the end of the midseason transfer window.
Omala, who has been heavily linked to Algerian side USM Alger looks to have agreed to join their league rivals JS Saoura instead until the end of the season in a move that could fetch Gor Mahia over $20,000 (Ksh3.2 million).
USM Alger had made a lucrative offer to the player but it now appears JS Saoura have enticed the player and his representatives into making a switch.

FKFPL Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala adresses USM Alger links
Several reports indicated that Omala was set to move to Algerian giants USM Alger last week, and the 22-year old striker has now adressed them himself.
Gor Mahia had previously insisted that they had not received any offers or approaches for their star man but the latest development appears to have reached the club.
“I have heard something of the sort but I am not in a position to explain anything,” a source from Gor Mahia told Pulse Sports over the issue.
Omala has been the subject of speculation since the end of last season after scoring a record-equaling 26 league goals but he stayed at the club for the start of this campaign.
That has not stopped suitors from circling and with his nine goals making him the FKF Premier League’s leading scorer so far, he is back in demand again in the midseason transfer window that closes on February 8.
While speaking about the links recently, the player did not rule out a move away from Gor Mahia.
“As a player you have to be ready, I am ready but an offer has not come. I still have something to achieve as a club and an individual because we want to retain our title,” Omala told The Good Company KE Podcast last month.

FOOTBALL Why Benson Omala needs to think carefully before considering a move to North Africa
Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala has been reported to be on the radar of Algerian club USM Alger but recent history suggests it may not be a good move.
Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla also revealed last month that the club would be looking for a hefty transfer fee from any club that would come for Omala’s services.
“He is our best asset now and the top scorer of the team and the league. He is a very good player, young, and with four years remaining on his contract. At the moment, we cannot listen to anything lower than $100,000 (Ksh15.9million) for Omala. When a good offer comes, we will not come in his way,” Ocholla told Capital Sports.
It remains to be seen if the latest move will finally end the speculation in what will be a second stint abroad on loan for Omala who had a brief spell at Swedish club FC Linkoping City in 2021.
