K'Ogalo's coach, McKinstry has responded to fans following criticism despite his team securing maximum points against the Soldiers.

Gor Mahia's head coach Jonathan McKinstry has responded to questions about his team's performance following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars on Saturday.

Amidst criticisms of a perceived "boring" style of play, McKinstry highlighted the challenges his team faced and the importance of securing maximum points.

The lone goal of the match was netted from a crucial set-piece opportunity, orchestrated by the newly acquired talent, Patrick Sibomana, and executed flawlessly by Kevin Simiyu.

McKinstry acknowledged the difficulty of playing against a formidable opponent like Ulinzi Stars, particularly in an away fixture, emphasizing the tough nature of the encounter.

"It is never easy playing against Ulinzi, and we know that especially the away game is always going to be a fight. Last season, we drew this game 1-1 away to Ulinzi," McKinstry noted, highlighting the historical challenges Gor Mahia had faced against this opponent.

Reflecting on his team's recent performances, McKinstry touched upon their aspirations to convert draws into wins and losses into draws, a strategic shift that yielded three valuable points on this particular occasion.

"There were 14 games where we did not pick up maximum points, and we asked ourselves if we could turn those draws into wins and if we could turn losses into draws. Today is one of those days; last season, it was one point, and today it's maximum points,” he elaborated.

McKinstry defended his team's tactical approach, which leaned towards a more direct style of football.

The former Uganda national team head coach attributed this choice to the excellent pitch conditions at the Ulinzi Sports Complex and highlighted the adaptability of his players.

"The match was tense, and I can say it was not the most entertaining game. We played a more direct style of football because of the nice pitch, and we played a bit of different football than usual. We know how to adapt and play, even on a pitch like Kasarani. However, in football, you want it to be entertaining, but the most important thing is to secure a win," McKinstry remarked.

Gor Mahia will have a fourteen day rest to prepare for their next Football Kenya Federation Premier League match against Nairobi City Stars.

This comes as the league will be observing a FIFA break and Gor will return into action on 17 September at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

Looking ahead, Gor Mahia will enjoy a well-deserved 14-day break to prepare for their upcoming Football Kenya Federation Premier League match against Nairobi City Stars.

This break coincides with the FIFA international break, providing the team with an opportunity to recharge before returning to action on September 17 at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
