Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry has issued a rallying call to the club’s supporters to push his side in the final matches since there are other special things the team is looking to achieve.

Outgoing Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry has called on K’Ogalo fans to turn out in large numbers for the clubs remaining two matches as the team is still fighting for more accolades.

McKinstry, who is overseeing the remaining matches before taking over the Gambia national team fully, was not overly pleased by the turnout on Sunday as Gor Mahia won 1-0 against Sofapaka but feels his players still need a push as some of them fight for the the Player of the Season and Golden Boot awards.

The Golden Glove has already gone to Gor Mahia goalkeeper Kevin Omondi but midfielder Austin Odhiambo is a firm favourite to claim the Player of the Season while striker Benson Omala is tied on 16 goals with Kenya Police hitman Tito Okello for the Golden Boot and McKinstry believes this will be possible with a little more support.

“You need to come out in your numbers, you know the noise, colour and vibrancy in Machakos was fanatic but we want to see twice as many fans over the coming games and yes we have won the league but there is a lot of records we want to set,” said McKinstry.

“This was our 22nd clean sheet of the season out of 32 games. That is remarkable and I believe Kevin Omondi that was his 20th which takes him level with Boniface Oluoch for the record.

“We also have a couple of guys fighting to get the MVP award and Benson chasing the golden boot award. We are greedy here at K’Ogalo, we don’t just want the league title, we also want to collect many of those personal awards and records as possible.”

Gor Mahia wrapped up the league title with three matches to go when they beat Muhoroni Youth 3-1 on May 19 but they have not relented despite being crowned.

K’Ogalo will take on FC Talanta on Wednesday before they complete the season away to Bidco United and it will be a chance for Omala to increase his goal tally while Omondi can claim more clean sheets.
