Gor Mahia's Austin Odhiambo is confident of clinching their 21st title with seven games left with his side aiming to surpass last season's points.

Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo is brimming with confidence as his team stands on the cusp of clinching an unprecedented 21st league title with just seven matches remaining in the season.

The Kenyan powerhouse is set to face Murang'a Seal on Saturday aiming to build on their recent victory in the fiercely contested Mashemeji Derby, where they triumphed despite being a man down for nearly 70 minutes.

Speaking about the team's aspirations and current form, Odhiambo s, expressed his confidence after a series of strong performances in recent matches.

"We are determined to win every single game left in the season," he said.

"The goal is to not only lift the trophy but to finish with a points tally higher than last season. The energy and competition within the team are at an all-time high, and everyone is pushing each other to excel."

Last season, Gor Mahia edged out competitors in a nail-biting finish to secure the league title.

However, their celebration was short-lived as they faced a FIFA-imposed ban which barred them from participating in the CAF Champions League due to issues of club license non-compliance.

This season presents an opportunity not only for redemption but also to return to continental football, a stage where the club last appeared in February 2021.

With eight goals to his name, Odhiambo is currently the second-highest scorer for the team, following Benson Omalla, who leads with 12 goals.

His performance this season has been a vital component of Gor Mahia's success, providing the team with crucial goals and assists.

"The competition in midfield is intense, but it’s a good kind of pressure," explained Odhiambo.

"It drives us to perform better. Surpassing last season's achievements is a great feeling, and now we have a solid chance to wrap up the league early."

Gor Mahia's potential early title win is facilitated by their current standing where they can amass a maximum of 78 points by the season's end.

In contrast, their closest rivals, Police FC, can only reach a total of 69 points if they win all their remaining matches.

This scenario puts Gor in a commanding position, needing just four wins and a draw to secure the championship.

The journey to the title is not just about winning games but also about setting new benchmarks and returning to international competitions.

"Lifting the league trophy with more points than we had last season would set a new standard for us," Odhiambo added.

"It’s about making a statement and showing that we are not just champions by chance, but champions by merit."
