With the expected closure of Kasarani and Nyayo Stadia, Gor Mahia will be forced to find a new home.

The renowned Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu has received the green light from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to host Premier League matches.

And it is the 20-time Kenyan champions Gor Mahia who will be utilising it for some of their home encounters in the 2023-2024 season.

The stadium, with its newly refurbished facilities, has been marked as a versatile venue capable of accommodating both low and high-risk matches.

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong’o, exuding enthusiasm, welcomed the decision, emphasising the significance of Gor Mahia's return to their roots.

"Special appreciation to FKF for allowing Gor Mahia FC to use Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium as their home ground," he expressed in a Facebook post.

The move to Kisumu opens doors for football aficionados from neighboring Western Kenya counties, particularly for arch-rivals AFC Leopards.

While the club's opening match of the season against Sofapaka is set to take place at the iconic Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, the anticipation for Gor Mahia's first match on their new home turf is palpable.

The stadium which was constructed at a cost of Ksh498 million stands as a symbol of the region's passion for the beautiful game.

Its main playing surface, encompassing an eight-lane running track and surrounded by well-designed terraces, sets the stage for adrenaline-fueled clashes.

Beyond the exhilarating matches, the stadium offers a plethora of amenities that elevate the overall experience.

A basketball and a tennis court to cater to the diverse interests of sports enthusiasts. The presence of a police station and an anti-doping room underscores the stadium's commitment to maintaining integrity and security.

Meanwhile, a restaurant and a conference area provide spaces for both celebration and contemplation.
