Gor Mahia striker Chris Ochieng is hoping that the club can maintain their unbeaten record until the end of the season.
K’Ogalo remains the only side yet to taste defeat in the FKF Premier League so far, having won seven while drawing as many to stay top of the table on 28 points, one ahead of second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz.
Ochieng has attributed their good start to the season to proper preparations, and the quality of the squad and hopes they can emulate the Class of 1976 and 2015 by going the whole season unbeaten.
“It has to make you a better player when you are playing with better team-mates, you automatically become better with effort and consistency,” said Ochieng.
“Preparations started from day one but it is a game at a time. We just prepare for a game and they keep on accumulating and hopefully, if we can finish the season unbeaten it will be a great thing.”
Ochieng admits competition for places is tough, especially among the forwards where he is up against the league’s leading scorer Benson Omala.
The striker joined Gor Mahia in the off-season to give coach Johnathan McKinstry more options in the wake of Patrick Kaddu’s long-term injury and has had to be patient for opportunities.
“For every striker, your main role is to score and currently the strikers are also scoring. The competition is quite high but we hope when your opportunity arises and you get your playing time, you utilise it,” he added.
Gor Mahia’s next game is an away clash against FC Talanta and despite being a Nairobi-based team, their opponents have chosen Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium to host the match.

Ochieng feels Gor, who have played in Homa Bay and Machakos in their last three games, have no control over where they play and are only concerned with the result.
“We have to be prepared for the teams that are away and at home. We don’t have the sole responsibility of deciding where we want to play because the home team decides where they want to play. Ours is to honour and prepare for the match,” said the striker.
