FKFPL Gor, Tusker eye wins to maintain title push as troubled Wazito seek to end poor run

The league leaders and FKF-PL champions have been in good form and both will be out to add more points on the board on Wednesday as the season enters homestretch

Gor Mahia and Tusker FC will attempt to improve their chances of winning the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) title when they take on Bandari and Mathare United respectively on Wednesday.

Both teams have been on an upward trajectory with Gor unbeaten in their last six matches while Tusker have not tasted defeat in their last eight, including winning three straight games, heading into Wednesday’s encounter.

Gor enjoy a four-point lead over Tusker, as they are on 49 points from 23 matches, but have played a game more than the brewers, which makes it a tight contest as the season heads into the homestretch.

K’Ogalo visit seventh-placed Bandari with the dockers also in good form, having won five of their last six matches, and should prove a tough nut to crack at Mbaraki Sports Club which has become a fortress this year.

Bandari have only lost twice at home in 2023, winning seven, meaning the league leaders have their work cut out although Jonathan McKinstry’s men will draw inspiration from their recent good run against the coastal side following four wins in their last eight meetings, with three matches over that period ending in draws.

Tusker, meanwhile, have what appears to be an easy match on paper against struggling Mathare who sit 15th on the 18-team table as they search for a fourth straight league win.

Robert Matano’s men have tightened things at the back to put together two straight clean sheets and it is the base the tactician will be banking on to get the much-needed win although the reigning league champions will be wary of Mathare’s giant killing instincts after they beat both Gor and AFC Leopards last month.

Wednesday’s other contests will see eighth-placed Kariobangi Sharks host Kakamega Homeboyz, who sit 11th on the log, in the early kick off while Posta Rangers take on Bidco United.

Kenya Police can move into the top four with victory against relegation-threatened Nairobi City Stars as second from bottom Wazito FC play host to high-flying Nzoia Sugar in Muhoroni.
