Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola explains why his team lost control in their 3-1 victory over Leicester.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has blamed substitutions for his team losing control in the victory against Leicester City.

The Cityzens were 3-1 winners against Leicester at the Etihad Stadium to put pressure on league leaders Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola's team took an early lead in the game, establishing their intent, thanks to a screamer by John Stones in the 5th minute of the game.

Jack Grealish was fouled in the box in the 11th minute, and City's Norwegian star Erling Haaland made no mistake as he fired past Daniel Iverson.

Haaland grabbed his brace in the 25th minute, as he increased the Premier League holders to three. Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench to grab a consolation goal for the visitors later in the game.

What Guardiola said

The hosts were in cruise control for most of the game; however, Leicester dominated in the later part of the game as City dropped off.

The Spaniard attributed it to the wholesale changes he made, saying the change in personnel caused his team to lose rhythm.

Pep used all five substitutions available to him, two of which came at halftime and another two before or around the hour mark.

"At the end, [it was uncomfortable]. That normally happens when you make a lot of substitutions. We should avoid it," he said, per the BBC.

"But sometimes it happens, and it is important we started really well after the Champions League. We made subs to make players rest but we lost some control, though in general, it was a deserved victory."

Manchester City will try to finish off the work they did in the first-leg against Bayern Munich this midweek when they travel to the Allianz Arena.
